Just remember the rule of thumb when it comes to funerals and fashions…all the eyes will be on the dearly departed, as long as the deceased looks good, it really doesn’t matter what you look like. It’s not a fashion show.

you should eventually invest in some suits, you can’t go wrong them. gray slacks and white (or black) shirt and black shoes. i’m sorry for your loss… been to a lot of funerals in my day. and they suck. my first funeral i wore all black because that’s how i felt on the inside, it was a person very very very close to me. but the ones i attended after evn tough they too were close to me as well i would try to steer away from wearing black. because i started thinking funerals should be a celebration of the life the person had, it should be a party a going away party.

Blue or gray is generally fine. Those are dark enough tones and ones that are commonly worn to funerals. Most don’t adhere to the all black attire thing anymore. I’d suggest you go with gray slacks, navy blazer and a white dress shirt with the black shoes. You can take off the jacket if other men are taking theirs off. If they leave theirs on, you leave yours on too. And white dress shirts are the most common dress attire for men, so don’t worry about that aspect. I’d stay away from the black shirt. That’s a different kind of look that one generally wears to a funeral. Go with the traditional look (Gray slacks, white dress shirt and navy blazer and black shoes.)

-Black Shoes
-Navy Slacks
It is a world tradition to wear dark colors to funeral’s for some reason.

Contrary to popular belief black isn’t always appropriate for a funeral. For example my grandmother asked me to wear a yellow sweater that my grandfather always thought I looked nice in to his funeral. color is okay just wear something respectful. As if you going to an important interview

You could wear a very nice pair of jeans, if you have them, with the blazer and one of the dress shirts and the shoes. I wore jeans to my dad’s memorial service.

It does depend on what the recomended dress code is for different funerals… in my experience a bit of colour is okay, otherwise it can look too sombre/depressing (although it is obviously going to be that anyway). To the last one I went to I didn’t want to wearall black as it was the funeral of a child and it felt too much, i wore a smart black shirt, a grey skirt and black shoes. So if the blue dress shirt could be okay if it is navy/ dark blue but if not it may be safer to just wear the black dress shirt (with the navy blazer that you could take off incase it is a strictly black occassion). Personally at my funeral I want everyone to wear yellow.
